Background and Rationale
Women remain underrepresented in project management roles across Africa, despite the growing importance of these positions in driving
development, innovation, and organizational success. Barriers such as limited access to
professional networks, mentorship, training, and cultural biases continue to impede women’s
advancement in the field. There is a critical need to address these challenges, promote gender
diversity, and unlock the full potential of African women in project management.
Organisation Overview Women in Project Management Africa (WiPMA), established in
2013, is a pan-African, non-profit organization dedicated to empowering, supporting, and
advancing women in the project management profession. WiPMA serves as a platform for
advocacy, capacity building, and networking to foster gender parity and excellence within the
profession across Africa.

Objectives
